News from Mexico

An oil-rich and tortilla-flat sliver at the foot of the Gulf of Mexico, Tabasco began flooding nearly three weeks ago after tropical storms dropped more than 2 feet of water in just three days. Villahermosa, and up to 80 percent of the rest of the state, were engulfed, the water reaching 15 feet in some places.

Blogging for Help

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007 by Karen

Sol Hernandez a blogger who lives in Fresno California has been blogging about the flood in the Mexican State of Tabasco.

You can see her interviewed here

Sol and her husband have a 14 month old baby and are unable to travel to Mexico but her mother and the rest of her family has been housing, feeding and clothing many people who are displaced. She has a paypal account as well as links to many many relief organizations.

Sol’s mother has also been giving massages at the shelters, so I guess Qualcomm is not the only place evacuees are treated with care and consideration.

Here is a link to recent photos.

There is great need for diapers, baby formula, and water and, of course, every other basic need. Although the aid is coming in great amounts now, the authorities are being challenged with the logistics of distributing and allocating the provisions to all the affected sectors; some shelters were built spontaneously in homes or schools and are no yet registered in the aid roster.

State of the Union Address

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007 by Karen

Well if you missed it let me assure you that you missed nothing.

Our President made no mention of the Hell we live in here in New Orleans

He did send a greeting tho

What kind of president can see one of the nation’s greatest, most historic cities ruined and not make its rebirth his highest priority? What kind of president gives a State of the Union and doesn’t even mention New Orleans? Eugene Robinson

Since my Blogging skills are still in their infancy I depend on the Kindness of Strangers,{ is that Ashley with Blanche?} to help me thru the tall grass of ignorance. having said that I thank Alan for waking me from slumber , Editor B for biking over to my house and being the Sighted leading the Blind.

Ray for linking when I didn’t know what a link was, Maitri for some great reads while we were Evacuated to Austin. Loki for being a Warrior.

Schroeder, Seymour, Gentilly Girl , Adrastos, Oyster, Lisa who proves cute and a geek are not mutually exclusive.
and some others that I have forgotten,You all have made me realize that we can impact the process of rebuilding just by Showing Up and being unafraid to Speak

Also the Fabby folks from Mid City, Michael for Teaching the Children well. Also Mark for making stuff happen.

Thanks Shelley
