Carrollton Shopping Center
I went to the informational meeting about the Carrollton Shopping Center. I think the one clear message that I took away was “don’t hold your breath” As far as I can tell there is no real interest in the site by any retailers.
With Victory in Mid City, and Old Navy and Best Buy building in Elmwood I can not imagine who would want to open there. We do have 2 new Stores opening Dollar General on Earhart and Family Dollar on Carrollton. Seems to me that we have plenty of Dollar stores.
There seems to be no interest in the area and no plans to fix the interstate exchange that makes that area such a mess.
In addition I heard of no plans to fix the drainage which cause flooding each and every time we get a medium to heavy rain.
Here is a link to the owners of the property

How could anyone turn down a spot with such a “superb roster of diversified, aggressive national and regional chains,” “Strategically located in Carrollton, the most populated section of New Orleans”?

I attended the meeting, and came away with a similar impression. There seemed to be little will on the part of the owner of the property for it to be anything more than it was before the storm - a hodgepodge of commercial plots, with low to mid level retailers serving a small segement of the Carrollton Market. There is very little interest in either the owner or potential developers to make this into a retail center that might serve or attract customers from other parts of the city and surrounding communities.

This is insane. This retail site is the most centrally located in the city, with near-direct access to an interstate highway with easy east-west connections. That in a city that is sorely under-retailed. This should be a prime location. The owners need an attitude adjustment.

I am so sad that nothing seems to be going on in this area of town. What’s even sadder is that when you click on the link to the owners of the property it still lists all the pre-Katrina tenants with no mention of the whole place being bulldozed! WHY CAN’T WE HAVE A NICE SHOPPING CENTER???

We should Green Space all fallow commercial centers. Or at least draw a big green dot on them to get the motivation level up!

I’m all for green space but my main reason for wanting a shopping center there is so we can keep some of our “mall dollars” in Orleans Parish. While I really do try to shop local whenever possible, sometimes a trip to Jefferson Parish is unavoidable. Wouldn’t it be great if this were not the case?

My point is if the Shopping Center owners where threatened like we were by Gren Dots they might get their asses in gear

Ahhhhh! I see your point!

This is the perfect example of poor planing and lack of vision. Whoever owns the property is not taking advantage of the potential. Until somebody with brains develops a great retail center, I will be giving my sales taxes to Metairie.

The Carrollton shopping center definitely needs to reopen Xavier university is right across the street. The Xavier students, faculty and staff have always supported Carrollton.

As a resident of Carrollton I have always wondered why there were not more businesses near Xavier.
Next time there is a Communit Meeting about the Shopping Center I hope Xavier students attend and demand better retail!
