Citywide Residential And Small Business Collection Cart Registration To
Start Today Register On City Website, Library And Lobby Of City Hall

NEW ORLEANS, LA (December 5, 2006) - Richard’s Disposal, Inc. and Metro
Disposal, Inc. will launch a citywide collection cart registration for
residents and small business owners not located in the French Quarter or the
Central Business District beginning today, December 5th at 10 a.m. via the
city’s website at www.cityofno.com.

Personalized, bar coded collection carts will be delivered with educational
materials developed to instruct residents and business owners on the ‘do’s
and don’ts’ of how to dispose of waste using the uniformed carts.
Information inside the collection cart will also include the most frequently
asked questions (FAQ’s) and a recycle directory for citizen usage.

“The cart will provide citizens with quality collection capability, and is
made of durable, extra strength, injection-molded plastic and equipped with
features such as a dual bottom wear strip, heavy-duty wheels and axles to
ensure years of dependable service. These carts will also offer a safe,
convenient and effective way to handle household waste,” said Ms. White.

Until carts are delivered, citizens are asked to continue to use their
existing trash containers to dispose of household and yard waste. Monday
through Friday, residents can also register for the standard 96 gallon
collection cart in the lobby of City Hall from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and in the
New Orleans Public Library. Residents in the Lower and Upper Ninth Ward may
obtain a registration form from ACORN located at 1024 Elysian Field until
December 31, 2006.

Veronica White, Director of Sanitation for the City of New Orleans
announced, today, that both contractors are ready to begin registering all
residents through the city’s website at www.cityofno.com
which will connect each resident to its vendor
that will provide semi-automated and automated garbage collection services.
Residents can also access the updated trash pick-up schedule on each
vendor’s website.

In accordance with bid requirements, Richard’s and Metro are required to
provide one free-of-charge personalized, bar coded collection cart along
with the following:

  • Twice-a-week semi-automated and automated collection service
  • Bulky waste collection
  • Yard waste collection
  • White good collection
  • Christmas tree pick up
  • Removal of dead animals
  • Special collections for daily and weekly pick up
  • Special event pick up
  • GPS tracking devise in garbage collection tucks that will ensure
    accountability and allow the city to receive weekly and monthly reports
    Special notices will be given to the French Quarter and the CBD residents
    and small business owners to register for collection carts.
