Walgreens

I have a couple of renderings to post but they are so ugly that I am only going to post one at a time out of respect for my readers.

Could someone please tell me what this drawing has to do with the corner of Carrollton and Claiborne?

This would be a nice building in about 99% of the country, and even on Veterans, but not on Carrollton Avenue. Please Walgreens help us to keep New Olreans beautifully unique.

Please tell me what purpose the large turret serves on the front of the building other than to provide a place for a neon sign that would not be allowed any where else in this neighborhood.

Also if I understand the drawing correctly, the entrance/exit is placed on Carrollton in the newly arrowed turning lane for traffic moving to Claiborne Ave. As this corner is already a place for traffic congestion and a key pedestrian crossing from Palmer Park and the bus stop…. it seems like a REALLY BAD place for the entrance/exit. A better place for the vehicle entrance might be Claiborne Ave.

Why can’t this store look a bit more like the one on Jeff Davis? This store though vacant at least looks like it fits in New Orleans.

I know that Walgreens has made compromises for other much smaller cities. Why does New Orleans keep allowing itself to be “dis’d”?

Also… Where are the Oak Trees? Carrollton has Oak Trees… Carrollton needs to retain its Oak Canopy!!!!!

Wasn’t this designed by the neighborhood groups???!!!

There has been a Design Review Commitee, this is what Walgreens spit out. Looks like it is back to the drawing board. I am unsure if the Architect who designed this knows the corner at all.

Why can’t we get a store like the one on St. Charles?

I think I have looked at every Walgreens in town, 10 times over. Even the one on Canal and Jeff Davis Parkway is better, the scale is better and the subtle details are better.

We also do not like 2 drive thru lanes. And our biggest fear is the ugly ugly ugly Walgreens at Claiborne and Napoleon.

Clearly, no thought has been given on how Walgreens will blend with the architecture of the neighborhoods. This is the usual cookie cutter, “cathedral” front looking structure that
Walgreens is throwing up everywhere….and yes, it is safe to say, to accomodate an LED, neon light so everyone will SEE Walgreens!

Yes there is a design review committee but Walgreens has obviously just submitted what they always submit. We were also told that the same “architect” would be doing the Robert’s on this property…is this what we have to look forward to at this structure as well? This will blend with one building….the Burger King..I don’t think the Burger King has gotten Historic status yet!

As for the DriveThru.: Two lanes is completely unnecessary and is taking up a lot of better used space on the property. AND there is the notion of two ingress/egrees areas right on Carrollton Avenue: 1) the firehouse enters and exits ajacent to one,(we do want them to get to the fires don’t we?), and 2) the corner of Carrollton and Claiborne, (has anybody done a traffic study here….I don’t think so)

Please Walgreens, WORK with us. There are two many neighborhoods DIRECTLY effected by what happens here! This is not the corner of Vet’s and something…it is residnetial!!

Walgreens: pay some attntion to the city you are planning on placing this prefab monstrosity in. We have things like history and architecture here and Katrina has NOT made us amenable to the insertion of cookie-cutter stip mall architecture.

Heed the voices of those you wish as customers.
