Unified Plan Update
Yesterday we had members who attended a City wide “Neighborhood” presidents meeting. There seems to be more unanswered questions with this new Unified Plan.
The simple question of where are the City Wide Meetings to be held remains unresolved
This Initiative comes on the heels of the City Council initiative. Combined there have beens contracts worth over 6 million dollars
The question remains, Where will the City Wide Meetings be held, what is the criteria for participation and who how and where will we be voting?
Within the Millions of dollars that has gone to fund these 2 Planning efforts did anyone ask themselves these basic questions. And if they did why are there no answers

A simple question deserves a simple answer.
The reason why the question “of where are the City Wide Meetings to be held remains unresolved.” is because the contract with the Citywide Planner has not been signed.
Once a legal contract is signed they will be announced and I would expect that to be very quickly.
“The question remains, Where will the City Wide Meetings be held,” — See above.
“…what is the criteria for participation” — Attendance.
“…and who how and where will we be voting?” — Not sure of this question or what its refering to.
I would strongly encourage you to do two things:
1. Visit http://www.unifiedneworleansplan.org
2. Attend the City-Wide Meeting this Sunday at 12pm at the Pavilion of the Two Sisters at City Park, located at 1 Palm Dr.
If you have questions that would be the best place to get them answered.

The Voting Question was in regards to Choosing a Planner
July 30th, 2006 at 12:43 am
The Council choose the Lambert planning group that preceeded the upcoming process without citizen input. On the other hand the unifiedneworleansplan includes a process for community members to be involved in the selection of technical assistance teams of professional planners to support the members in neighborhood districts. This is what the voting is about. It makes sense that one must attend the July 30 and/or Aug 1 meeting to vote. Attendees will establish criteria for working with the planners, define neighborhood boundaries, and confirm projects for each of the 13 planning districts. Note that the Lambert group’s map excluded some neighborhoods based on the fact that some areas did not flood. However, non flooded areas experienced the same infrastructure damage, structural damage from wind, and business loss as some of the flooded areas. A comprehensive plan supported by the Federal government includes planning for both wet and dry areas. A second meeting Aug. 1 will allow residents to interview technical assiatance teams. Participants will each have one vote. They shall have the opportunity to select their top three teams. The info will be compiled and in approximately 7 days planning teams will be assigned based on residents preferences, capacity and cost. By Aug. 14-18 District/Neighborhood planning projects will be launched. Before residents criticize the unifiedneworleansplan give it a chance to prove itself. There will be lots of time for editorials on the two plans before its over.
